Mandy Prince will be celebrating her 10th anniversary with ICONMA later this year. She is responsible for overseeing the onboarding process including background checks and screenings. She works with our account managers and clients to make sure all requirements are met, and guidelines are followed. In honor of her upcoming milestone, here is a look into a day as a Compliance & Onboarding Manager and some advice Mandy wants to give to those looking for a new role.
What does a typical day in your role looks like?
As a Compliance and Onboarding Manager it is my role to ensure all aspects of onboarding candidates for their new roles goes smooth within the guidelines that our clients set forth and within federal, state, and local laws. A big part of my team’s job is to process background checks, drug screens, and other testing. We service a variety of different industries, so some of my team members specialize in a particular industry and become the subject expert in onboarding that type of client. It is interesting to see the requirements for different industries and adapt our onboarding to meet these requirements.
Every day is challenging as laws are changing regarding background checks and drug screening. I am constantly reviewing these updates and ensuring that we are following guidelines. I work with my team very closely to ensure every background runs as smoothly as it should and devise solutions for those where hiccups may arise.
My team and I work closely with account managers, recruiting, contractor relation specialists (CRS), and HR teams to ensure all onboards are progressing according to targeted start dates.
What you love about your job?
I love the staffing industry as a whole and have been in it for a quarter century. The industry is very demanding but working at ICONMA I feel I have a good work-life balance. Being with ICONMA for almost 10 years I have been able to see my kids through school, sports, and all their other activities. Those things are priceless, and I appreciate that ICONMA supports this balance.
I also love my team and appreciate that we get to connect often. Many of my team members have been with ICONMA for many years also, so seeing them grow personally and professionally has been amazing. I’ve always felt that each of us bring something unique to the team, and developing and discovering each person’s strengths is rewarding.
Any advice for job seekers?
The advice I would give to job seekers is to be honest on your resume. Many people feel that stretching out your previous employment dates or adding some additional educational experience to your resume will help you land a better role. This is not always the case and can hurt you in achieving the role you desire. The great thing about working with a staffing company is that recruiters are great at learning your strengths and can help you land the role with our client even if you don’t have what you feel is the perfect experience or resume. Making sure your resume is correct before the offer, will ensure smooth sailing after the offer.
