This year marks Shawn Howard’s tenth anniversary at ICONMA! She has played a crucial role in the HR and administrative departments throughout the past decade, significantly contributing to the company’s success. Here is a peek at what a typical day in the life as an HR Manager looks like!
What does a typical day in your role look like?
The day of an HR Manager can be quite varied and fast-paced. The typical day starts by checking emails and messages to see if any urgent matters need attention. I then review pending items and prioritize tasks. I make myself available throughout the day to assist the team with any employee relations issues, policy inquiries, and administrative tasks, such as assisting employees with benefits-related questions and enrollment in benefit plans and payroll/expense processing. As an HR Manager it is necessary to stay up to date on labor laws and regulations to ensure compliance. This may involve working with legal counsel to handle matters related to employment issues. At the end of the day, I respond to any remaining emails and ensure that any urgent matters are addressed.
Overall, being an HR Manager requires a combination of people skills and organizational skills to be effective and contribute to the company’s overall success.
What do you love about your job?
I love being an HR Manager because it gives me the opportunity to make a positive impact on employees’ lives by helping with challenges and provide support, build relationships with the employees and team members I often interact with, continuously learn and grow by staying current with changing labor laws and best practices, and work on a diverse range
of tasks which can make each day different and interesting. Most of all, I have the privilege of working with the best team.
I am thankful that ICONMA has a positive company culture where teamwork is promoted and employees are appreciated, supported, and valued.
