Skylar Ladd began her professional journey with ICONMA this past June, following her graduation from Central Michigan University. The field of recruiting wasn’t her initial intention, yet it turned out to be an excellent launchpad for her career. In her role as a recruiter, she dedicates her days to connecting with potential candidates. Whether it’s through phone calls, emails, or virtual meetings, Skylar is always on the lookout for talented individuals who can contribute to the success of ICONMA’s clients. Here is a look into Skylar’s daily routine and what she loves about her job, along with some advice for those looking for a new position.
What was it like to start your career with ICONMA?
I was very nervous and excited to start my career fresh out of college from Central Michigan University. As we navigated through our training, I felt myself start to become comfortable instantly not only with the job but with my team! I felt so welcomed by my colleagues and started to grow my connections almost immediately. ICONMA was welcoming before I even started my career. I had an instant feeling during my interview that ICONMA would be the place where I can grow within my career and myself.
What/who inspired you to be a recruiter?
I did not initially think I would go in the path of being a recruiter. I received my degree in Human Resources Management knowing that I wanted to work with people and recruiting is a great opportunity to start in that path.
My mom started as a recruiter to grow her career within Human Resources which inspired me to start that path and see where it takes me.
What does a typical day in your role look like?
A typical day as a recruiter starts with admin work in the morning. Some days I come into the office with missed calls and texts and several emails
to go through right away. I also go through my current jobs and decide what jobs to work on throughout the day that takes priority. I work on around four different jobs a day usually two in the morning and two in the afternoon. I start with around 30 minutes or admin work and then move into sourcing and calling candidates. I dedicate about an hour and a half to each position before moving on to the next. I then circle back to any positions that require more candidates. Our team also likes to take a 15-minute break around 3pm to get up and take our eyes off our screens and go for a walk around the office building.
What do you love about your job?
My favorite thing about being a recruiter is that every day is different. Some days I will have no one answer the phone and leave around 40 voicemails but other days I
will be having conversations with candidates and submitting them for new job opportunities.
Any advice for job seekers?
My advice for job seekers is to be open to new opportunities. There are always opportunities to grow and taking a phone call and discussing new opportunities can make all the difference.
