It’s that time of year again. You pull up your calendar to make a romantic dinner reservation with that special someone only to find out that Valentine’s Day is on a Monday this year, and both you and your partner have a busy day of work ahead.
Many couples are most likely to move up their Valentine’s plans to that weekend, but that doesn’t mean Feb. 14 needs to go to waste. One of the best ways to make the most of this Valentine’s Day is to take the festivities to the office and show your colleagues your appreciation and admiration.
Here are some fun, creative ways to bring Valentine’s Day to your workplace.
Send your colleagues a message of appreciation
Valentine’s Day isn’t an exclusive holiday just to be celebrated by couples – it is also an excellent opportunity to send a thoughtful message to your colleagues! Try starting the day off by sharing what you really appreciate about your team members or some great qualities they possess. You can do this via email, Microsoft Teams, or you could send them a letter, or gift card to them in advance.
Check out this article for some examples of Valentines Day messages you can share with your colleagues this year.
Secret Admirer/Cupid
Everyone is familiar with the concept of “Secret Santa” at the office during the holidays. You pass around and pick a name from a hat/bucket for who you will buy a gift. Now take that idea and add some Valentine’s Day flair to it, and you have an excellent way to get to know your team better and make your colleagues feel special.
It is even easier to set up with many websites where teams can do a virtual drawing and create a wish list for ideas of items to get.
When planning something like this, be sure to lay out a minimum and maximum spending amount, for example, $25 or $30, so that everyone is spending an appropriate amount of money.
Valentine’s Day Brunch
Brunch is an excellent way to bond with your co-workers and setting aside some time to eat and catch up with everyone on what’s going on outside the office.
Coordinate a time and pick up some bagels and coffee for your team. You can also ask your colleagues if anyone wants to bring homemade dishes, which adds a nice personal, homey touch to any meal.
If your company/team is still remote, brunch over Zoom is the best way to get together virtually. Bring your food and coffee, and play some fun team-building games to bring everyone together when being together in the office is not possible.
*Always be sure to address any allergies or dietary restrictions beforehand.
Goodie Bags
Nothing says Valentine’s Day more than sweets. So if you’re looking for a simple, sweet way to thank your team for their hard work and have a little extra free time on your hands, putting together Valentine’s Day goodie bags with a little handwritten note is an easy way to show your appreciation.
Pick up a bag of candy from your local supermarket or pack a few nonperishable baked goods. Of course, homemade baked goods are even better.
Your co-workers will love a surprise treat waiting at their desks, and if you’re new to the office, this is the perfect way to get to know your team.
If you don’t have the time to create individual goodie bags, you can also leave a basket on your desk or breakroom with a note attached for your team to grab a treat when they pass by.
*Always be sure to address any allergies or dietary restrictions beforehand.
Wrap up
Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be about love; it is also about showing your appreciation for one another. Find something to bring your team together, and it doesn’t take a lot to do so. Take 15-20 minutes of your Monday and say thank you to your team members and colleagues that you interact with on a daily basis.
