Have you heard of the Internet of Things? If you haven’t, you should know that it will likely change your day-to-day life in the near future. Here’s a little overview of what it is.
The Internet of Things (IoT) is the concept of connecting all sorts of objects to the internet and each other, essentially creating a network of “smart” objects. The purpose of this is to provide data that could make life easier for you.
Consider this example: your refrigerator’s smart system notices an irregularity that could make the fridge malfunction. It sends a message to your phone that you need to have your fridge serviced, and you do, avoiding the hassle of your fridge malfunctioning and all your food going bad. Or maybe your garage light is nearing the end of its life, but before dying, you get a message that it needs to be replaced. You replace it before it dies, and save yourself from fumbling in the dark.
You can imagine all the different possibilities for IoT in homes, workplaces, and schools all over the world. There are already functioning examples of IoT today, like apps that you can use to control your home security, heating and cooling system, and cable.
At ICONMA, we’ve implemented really cool IoT projects. With iLamps, we created a system of smart street lights that allowed a city to manage their lighting costs. In our iParamed app, we developed a smart app which allows paramedics to take a patient’s vitals and send them to the hospital while the patient is being transported there.
The Internet of Things is here to stay and growing every day. Find out more about what we’re doing in IoT here. If you’re looking for a way to make your business run smoother with an IoT project, reach out to us. We’d love to present great strategies to you.
